"We had a fantastic fall season (currently ranked #12 our highest ranking ever!) and I attribute a lot of that to Shot Pattern. It's so good I don't want to tell other teams about it."

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the free experience and Premium?

Shot Pattern Free gives you GPS distances, course maps for over 40,000 courses, and one preset dispersion size for tee and approach shots. Premium unlocks the full experience: customizable dispersion sizes, shot tracking on iPhone and Apple Watch, strokes gained and advanced analytics on every shot, course elevation data, Strackaline green maps, and the ability to share data with your coach. Premium is $99 per year with a free 14-day trial when you check out on the Shot Pattern website .

Is Shot Pattern legal for tournament play?

Yes. Shot Pattern's GPS and dispersion overlay features can be used during tournament and handicap rounds. When you enable Tournament Mode, features that are not permitted (like live strokes gained and the Strokes Gained Predictor) are automatically hidden. The wind meter uses publicly available weather forecast data, which is explicitly permitted under the Rules of Golf Rule 4.3a(2). Elevation markers are displayed in a static way and do not reference your live position on the course, just like a paper yardage book. You get full course strategy tools without worrying about a rules violation.

How does Shot Pattern compare to Arccos, Decade, and 18 Birdies

Shot Pattern is the only golf GPS app that overlays your personal shot dispersion onto the course map in real time so you can pick smarter targets before every shot.

A key difference between Arccos and Shot Pattern is the on-course experience. Shot Pattern is designed to conform to the Rules of Golf so that you can use it in tournament rounds and rounds where you post to your handicap index. Arccos's Smart Caddie does not conform to the rules of golf and would lead to disqualification in a tournament and is not allowed for handicapping purposes. Both platforms keep detailed strokes gained stats, but unlike Arccos, Shot Pattern does not require the purchase of additional hardware.

Decade has a terrific library of course management education, but it does not provide on-course GPS, on-course shot tracking, customized strategy based on your shot dispersion data, Strokes Gained predictor, 3D preview, green maps, or elevation data.

18Birdies is strongest in social features and swing analysis, but does not provide the same strategy and analytics depth as Shot Pattern.

Shot Pattern combines GPS with shot tracking, detailed analytics, strong course preview capabilities, and personalized strategy into one app.

Do I need extra hardware or sensors to use Shot Pattern?

No. Shot Pattern uses your iPhone's GPS to track shots automatically during a round, with no club sensors, wearables, or external devices required. You can also log rounds manually after play, or upload launch monitor data from a range session to build your dispersion faster.

Can my coach see my stats?

Yes. Shot Pattern includes a built in Coaches Portal. Players share a Student ID with their coach, and from there the coach can view all the same data the player sees, including strokes gained breakdowns, dispersion stats, and round history. Dozens of college programs and golf academies already use Shot Pattern as their primary stat tracking platform. Coaches can observe for free. Only the player needs an active subscription.

How do I upload launch monitor data to Shot Pattern?

You can upload data from any launch monitor (Trackman, Mevo, GCQuad, etc.) to build your shot dispersion faster without waiting for on course rounds. Export your session data to a spreadsheet, format it to match the Shot Pattern template, and upload the CSV through the app. There is a step by step video tutorial available on the Shot Pattern YouTube channel.

Does Shot Pattern work on Apple Watch?

Yes. Shot Pattern features automatic swing detection on Apple Watch. The Watch records the location of your swing, automatically deduplicates practice swings, and lets you select your club directly from your wrist. You can also set the pin location using GPS from the Watch without touching your phone. For golfers who want to track every shot without pulling out their phone, the Apple Watch integration now handles full on course tracking in just a few taps.

What is shot dispersion and why is it important for golfers to track?

Your shot dispersion is the pattern your shots create around your intended target. It represents your ability to put the ball on target.

It's critical to track because it helps uncover the "why" behind your strokes gained or lost. If you're losing strokes with a tight dispersion, you have a strategy problem. If you have a wide dispersion, you've got a skill issue.

Tracking your dispersion not only guides you toward what to practice, it also informs your strategy. By knowing your shot dispersion, you know exactly how far away from hazards and penalty strokes you need to aim to reasonably take them out of play. It is the same concept tour pros and their caddies use to plan every shot.

What happens if I want to cancel my subscription?

No problem. There's a cancellation flow in the Settings screen in the app. We won't make you jump through hoops if you decide it's not for you.
